Physicist Stephen Hawking, who had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, changed the way we look at the universe. We talked about Thomas Edison, “father of the lightbulb,” who lost his hearing. As stated before, people with disabilities make historic contributions to music, science, sports and technology. This month, we have the opportunity to honor the history, achievements, experiences and struggles of the disability community. It encompasses all aspects of their lives so they can have equal opportunities for working, going to school, using public and private transportation services, voting, buying goods and services or accessing public places.
